Care
A soft dry cloth. Keep away from perfume, water and cleaning products.
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with 7.5% other metals. Pure silver on its own is too soft to hold a setting or a clasp; the alloy is what lets a piece keep its shape and take a polish. The "925" stamp is the standard mark for that composition, and it is where the name sterling comes from.
Silver darkens over time. That is the metal reacting with the air, not a fault, and it lifts off with a soft cloth. Keep your pieces dry, away from perfume and cleaning products, and store them separately so they do not scratch each other.
Hallmarking
Every Hilver piece is hallmarked 925 sterling silver. The hallmark is the independent assurance that the metal is what we say it is — 92.5% silver — rather than our word for it.
If you ever want to check a piece, bring it to any BIS-recognised assaying and hallmarking centre. If a piece you receive from us turns out not to meet the 925 standard, write to us and we will replace it or refund you in full.
